In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The beginning of time was opened with the creation story in the book of Genesis, the state of the earth and the account of creation makes us stand in awe of what a great God we serve. Everything from the first creation to the last creation which was man tells us of the kind of power that was exerted in the creation of the universe.
Certainly, no one can deny the fact that what went into the creation of this world was an awesome power which couldn’t have been done by anyone save God Himself.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20).
So here, Paul clearly attunes to the fact that the creation of God involved God’s very eternal power and Godhead. Indeed a lot went into the creation of the universe and though God is all powerful, He exerted a lot in His first creation. But it may surprise you to know that with all the splendor and the magnificence of this creation, the greatest power of God wasn’t exhibited at creation???
So then, where did God exhibit most of His power, yes! the incarnation of Jesus also involved a lot, because at the incarnation God had to become man, but as wonderful as that was, is still wasn’t the exhibition of God’s greatest power. So again, where was God’s greatest power seen???
The greatest power of God was exhibited when God raised Jesus from the dead. Paul calls it the mighty power of God that was exerted.
Ephesians 1:19-20 “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places …”
That was the greatest power of God, that power was seen in the resurrection of Christ, it was so great a power that Paul said in his letter to the church which are at Philippi,
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection.” Paul sought to know nothing except the power of His resurrection, and remember it was for this same reason Paul said “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
This power of the Lord’s resurrection is now available to us, to us who believe. what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe and that power is the mighty power which He wrought in Christ when He raised him from the dead. Hallelujah!
So Paul retreated this in the book of Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
He that raised up Christ from the dead, is the Spirit Of God and it is that same Spirit that works in us today. Anytime you walk in the Spirit, you have access to this resurrection power. The power works in you and your only responsibility now is to know that power in increasing measure day by day.
So we agree with the man Paul who wrote almost half on the New Testament when he said that He may know the power of His resurrection. Comprehending the power of His resurrection gives you access to walk in this power.
And so it dawns on us to ask God in the Ephesians Prayer Paul prayed;
That the eyes of our understanding being enlightened; that we may know;
1. what is the hope of his calling.
2. what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
3. what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power : This is praying to God that He May open your eyes to see what is this power of His resurrection.
To walk in the power of His resurrection is to live everyday knowing fully that the God of grace, that great shepherd of the sheep is able to do for you exceedingly and abundantly beyond whatever you can ask or think.
Again to walk in the power of His resurrection is to acknowledge that the all- surpassing power of this greatness is from God and not of yourself.
Then lastly walking in the power of His resurrection is when by God’s very power that is at work in you, you are able to call forth those things which be not as though they were; and even those things which seem dead are able to rise again unto life.
That is the power of His resurrection; and it works by faith; for if Father Abraham, one who was as good as dead tapped into this power which was not yet revealed how much more us.
Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. (Hebrews 11:12).
Beloved, we can know this power and we can have this power fully work in us, if day by day we can put to death the desires of the flesh by His Spirit which He has given us.
Let us endeavor to walk by His Spirit for that power of Christ Resurrection which is the greatest power the world has ever seen and will ever see is now available to us by the Holy Spirit whom He has given to us, who are the heirs of the promise.
