Words Of Life

The Power Of Suggestions; taking control of your mind

According to Robert Collier; “there is nothing on earth that you cannot have once you have mentally accepted the fact that you can have it.”

If the mind can conceive it, you can achieve it.

Subsequently, the most important mental and spiritual principle ever discovered is that, you tend to become what you think about most of the time. The power of suggestions can make or unmake you depending upon what you do with whatever suggestions your mind gathers.

You are not what you think you are, but what you think you are.”

In christiandom, Jesus was crucified in the place of the skull which denotes mind. He died here to give us complete rest in our minds. This is very much necessary because in these last days God will need our minds to be clear and sound before we can truly be used for any assignment ; Isaiah calls it perfect peace in (Isaiah 26:3).

Also, whatever victory Christ won for the church will come to light when the believer begins to comprehend with the mind.

The mind is very important to God and we all have to give special attention to what goes on in the mind even though it is a mechanical organ.

A story was told of a football team that was diagnosed with bacterial infection according to the doctor’s report. The team was confined in a special room because of the said report from the doctor. In seven days, it was noticed that most of the players had developed symptoms of all kinds and in the space of two weeks the whole team had developed symptoms.

What was happening really?? Finally the doctor had to come back to tell them what was really happening to them and the fact was that nothing was really wrong with them and that the so called bacterial infection wasn’t true after all. The doctor told the team that they were just testing the power of suggestions and it showed that indeed;

the mind can take a thought and turn it into an experience.

This mind is such powerful a tool; that it can turn a beautiful lady into an ugly lady and an ugly lady into a beautiful lady, if the individuals involved accept whatever their minds suggest to them. It is for this same reason that we ought to sieve our thoughts and the things we think upon, for we are responsible for whatever we do with our minds. In Philippians 4:8, Apostle Paul taught us what we should dwell upon;

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

He listed eight things in all;

  1. True
  2. Honest
  3. Just
  4. Pure
  5. Lovely
  6. Good report
  7. Virtue
  8. Praise

Whatever idea, news or suggestions that fall short of even one of these benchmarks shouldn’t be allowed further entry into your thoughts. In fact it should be ignored and discarded with immediate effect since such an idea or suggestion has the ability to damage you.

Your mind is a vacuum and will gather from all sources that provide information once it has been exposed to it.

For Christians; we are in a warfare and the arena of this warfare is now in the mind. There are all sorts and kinds of strongholds in the mind; the devil is very much aware; sometimes you are not responsible for the thoughts that come into your mind.

You are however responsible for what you do with your mind, your mind is not you, is just a part of you which requires cleansing and constant renewing.

For this reason Paul admonished us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.”

Again one thing that should be understood by the believer is that, the mind does not get saved when you become saved, it has to be worked on.

It is for this reason that we shouldn’t be overly surprised when what used to appeal to us before we knew Christ still seems to appeal to us in a way. This is because your longing and your passion for God is at war with your mind.

The mind synonymous in the Bible is associated with the soul and in James 1:21, we are being told that for the soul to be saved one has to take in the very words of God.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Every battle is a battle for the mind; your mind is so remarkable that all demonic powers are focused on your mind. Thus the battle for your mind is also a battle of focus;

Focus is literally your key to stripping of everything of its power that including demonic powers.

For example if you withdraw your mental energy from a person or situation that makes you sad or angry by refusing to think about it, the emotion connected with that situation eventually dies away. That is focus; focus is a divine empowering to neutralize what God does not want you to notice. Here, you forget those things which are behind, and reach forth unto those things which are before (Philippians 3:13).

Your mind is deciding what you are feeling;

You can’t decide a feeling on your own rather you decide a focus and your focus creates the feeling. A feeling can be turned into a tragedy by your mind because the mind can magnify mistakes and problems that may have nothing to do with you. In fact your mind has the ability to magnify anything. It is for this same reason that your mind affects your body.

The mind is such that it can be developed to a point where it can have power over the body.

All battles of life are inside the mind therefore it is expedient for us to increase our respect for it and learn to conquer it by filling it with the right information. This is what we call the Law Of Displacement. Our minds need constant renewal in the presence of God; this is key especially in overcoming wild fantasies and breaking free of every captivity in our lives.

Whatever atmosphere you expose your mind to, it begins to gravitate towards the life and principles in that particular atmosphere.

Repetition is a persuader of the mind; what you keep hearing you begin to believe and whatever you believe becomes an experience. That is why we ought to let go off assumptions and suspicions which we no nothing off; what we should occupy ourselves with is the truth, it prevents unnecessary worries and calms anxiety.

I found out that about 80 percent of the assumptions I made about people and situations turned out to be false.

Let’s start working on our minds and it begins with our mouth.

Speak the good thoughts and ignore the bad thoughts because evil thoughts die unborn when you refuse to speak them.

Here are three keys we need when it comes to mind management.

  • Pictures
  • Words/Sounds
  • The Word

Feed on the right food; the mind needs food. The right pictures would motivate you; for the mind associates pictures with feelings. Don’t just watch anything because a picture create a feeling and they can also decide your conduct. Words creates feelings so does sounds; surround yourself with that kind of atmosphere.

Invest in living in such an atmosphere because a single statement can forever change your personality.

Finally; the word of God is supreme; those very words you read in the Bible are the very words of God and His very life and the key to survive on the earth is His very Word stored inside of you. It has that ability to build you up and give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified.

If there is anything that can tame your mind and give you that mind that Jesus possessed; it is the word of God. Become a word addict;

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (MSG) Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.

Your mind is a magnet for knowledge; seek for knowledge and above all seek God’s word; because amidst all the articles and books you can read, none of them surpasses the life and power in the word.
