The Esau Turnaround; the choice is yours

After Esau lost his blessings to Jacob, one would have thought that was the end of Esau and his life was destined for doom but this was not meant to be so;

Because Esau bought into God’s revealed word.

Yes indeed his father Isacc said there was nothing left for Him and truly it was so and even though he sought for it with strong crying and tears what was done was done because actually it was God’s plan.

And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing (Genesis 27:34-35 KJV).

It all started when Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for pottage, something the writer of Hebrews condemed and called Esau profane for despising his birthright because of food.

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears (Hebrews 12:16-17).

At this point Esau was distraught but finally his father spoke and though it wasn’t what Esau would have loved to hear; there came a revealed word out of the bitter prophecy.

Hear the words of Isacc; in Genesis 27:40 (NLT);

You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother.
But when you decide to break free,
you will shake his yoke from your neck.”

So here was the prophecy Isaac spoke but the key to his glory was hidden in this same word;

“when you decide to break free you will shake his yoke from your neck.”

This yoke was actually his brother’s not his; in the above verse in Genesis 27:40 the phrase is

“his yoke” which meant Jacob’s yoke which was laid on him. The yoke was called his brother’s yoke because he was now a slave to him.

Esau left his Father’s presence angry and hatred filled his heart thus he made up his mind to murder his brother.

Here we see that the seeds of murder are sown in the heart and anger and hatred are number one seeds.

However, this did not happen as their mother Rebecca upon hearing Esau’s plot told Jacob whom he loved over Esau to runway. Many years after departing the two brothers finally met again and here was Esau’s turnaround; for he had attained some glory.

In Genesis Chapter 33; Jacob had already prepared to meet Esau.

Jacob saw his brother ahead and out of fear of what he had done to his senior brother in the past; he decided to send gifts ahead of him so that perhaps he may find favor in his sight.

“And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.”

But Esau had something counter to say because amidst all the troubles God had blessed him too because of his hard work and he had enough.

And Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.”

This same Esau who looked like life wasn’t fair to him had gained some glory that even Jacob together with His household bowed down unto him upon meeting him.

Hear the words of Jacob in

Genesis 33:10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

Jacob after bowing down seven times to Esau now said, seeing Esau was like seeing the face of God. I find this interesting because it was this same Esau who had lost his blessing and was to be a slave to his younger brother.

This was Esau’s story; he lost what belonged to him as the firstborn; the conditions were not right but he didn’t let that restrain him, he didn’t remain there; but at the word of the Lord spoken by His father he shook himself and worked towards securing a great future.

The word of the Lord always comes to empower; it gives you the ability to perform.

It doesn’t matter where you have gotten too as a Christian in life; don’t let your circumstances define you so far us you have life you can turn things around.

Always remember Esau; he was able to defy all odds though the prophecy wasn’t the best. He held onto the word and it was enough; you may have lost a lot but the word of God is enough to restore so far as you act on it.

The word of God is not there just to inform you but to transform you only if you would believe.

Esau contended with the prophecy and through hard work choke of his brothers yoke, the anger dwindled and he had no bitterness in his heart against his brother.

Being a Christian doesn’t nullify hard work and diligence, it is key to the glorious future God has prepared.

Yes there is the grace of God that sees us through our daily walk; yet still nothing is a substitute for diligence and hard work. After Timothy received prophecies Paul told him to war a good warfare.

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; (1 Timothy 1:18).

There is no room for sluggishness but rather brethren,

give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

If Esau defied the odds and attained greatness; we can do better because we have better and sure promises more than Esau;

Because God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Shalom
