For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20 KJV).
The outbreak of the COVID-19, popularly known as the Coronavirus, has shaken up things in the world. The disease declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization, having started as an epidemic in China has now escalated and now there are only a few countries worldwide who haven’t had their share of this pandemonium.
Almost every nation and kingdom has been shaken but there is this kingdom that cannot be shaken and the child of God is privileged to belong to this kingdom.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe (Hebrews 12:28 NIV).
The initial title of this blog; Truths about COVID19 was modified to Hard Truths as I knew that not everyone may agree with me but thank God this is not for everyone.
But He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The public education on the virus has been massive and even in my country which has recorded just six cases so far: measures have been put in place to prevent further transmission as schools have been closed down, social gatherings and other social events have all been put on hold following a directive by the President.
We thank God for the public education and the measures that have been put in place, certainly there is a need for that and it cannot be overlooked. I am an ardent supporter of this and I believe it is a step in the right direction.
However, the purpose of my blog is to speak God’s mind and is not another platform for public education on the virus; I believe the WHO, other health institutions and the media have done a good job there and I am not going to add to it here. At least not here!
This blog seeks to look at the public menace of this virus, in the light of God’s word. We are Christians and amidst the reports out there, God also has a report, and the question to us now is amidst all the noise;
whose report are we going to believe??
I am of the view that the Coronavirus is not for everyone and for the Christian who believes in God and is born again it is not their portion.
This is not a call for negligence but if you have a problem believing this; I have no problem with you; that’s your faith; but I will ask us to sit down and evaluate who we have become as new creations in Christ and the hope of our calling.
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:4 KJV).”
What do scriptures like these mean to us in these times??
1. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling (Psalm 91:10).
2. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee (Psalm 91:7).
3. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways (Psalm 91:11).
4. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler(Psalm 91:4).
Psalm 91 alone is enough to keep you safe from Coronavirus if you believe every word as coming from the Lord and not man. As the scripture put it, this truth becomes a shield and a buckler for you as you go through your daily routine.
Where the whole world is in turmoil and rampage; you maintain your calm and your peace; because;
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3 KJV).
People sometimes including christians say Faith is not foolishness; but Faith is also not natural and for the Christian the bedrock of faith is rooted in the word of God.
Our confidence is not in ourselves but in the promises of protection by a Father whose banner over His children is love; it is however sad that in these times the word of God comes last and for many it is not even an option.
And so far us the word of the Lord becomes second in our quest to fight this virus, we are all at risk and even the Christian with this mindset is not exempted because without faith it is impossible to please God.
We learn from the word of God that everything so far as it has a name bows to the name of Jesus and this includes Coronavirus (Philippians 2:10-11).
If we can believe the health tips and other preventive measures being put out there; can’t we also lie our weight and shoulders on the infallible word of God which is ever eternal and powerful??
That engrafted word of God which is able to save our souls. I choose to differ; be a Christian with a difference; don’t join the crowd to continue propagating fear.
Go tell the world that Jesus is Lord over everything and that includes the COVID-19. It may sound silly to the world out there and even some believers may consider it extreme. But Nay, let God be true: and every other man be a liar.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4 KJV).
Knowing this also; that if Christ be in you, though the body be dead because of sin, and is subject to all the weakness of the fallen man, the Spirit in you gives it life because of righteousness.
