When we hear of holiness; what mostly comes into mind is living a life devoid of sin. To the average Christian, setting standards and meeting them is what holiness is all about.
That is helpful and is certainly a good headway to start from; where a christian desists from practices which fall short of his or her values.
Of Course, holiness also constitutes abstinence but just to a point. I found out that, there is a highway of holiness, beyond just abstinence which is exclusively for God’s people.
“Isaiah 35:8” describes this highway as that road which one cannot get lost on; in fact it is a road which is said to be even safe for fools.
That fascinated me the a lot. The New King James Version of the Bible puts it this way;
Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray.
Holiness for God is His very nature. He is a holy God; that’s who He is, so as men created in His image, it is no surprise when He gave us the command to be Holy just as He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16).
Of Course, God must have known there was a way of holiness, even a highway, a road that is safe for all and that is why He gave that command.
Remember this; for every word the Lord gives, there is “always a trade secret.”
By that I mean there is “always a grace to perform.”
Because the Lord watches over His word to perform so if the Lord gave us a command on holiness; He must have also provided the way to it because His word carries much potential to do.
So what is this highway way of holiness??
The highway of Holiness is the Spirit of God and that is why He is called the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth whom the world cannot receive.
There is wisdom for holy living, Yes! But it’s all starts from acknowledging the Holy Spirit as Lord over your life. He will teach you the highway which is mostly a tailor made package just for you.
Where the Spirit is not; there can be no true holiness as God desires it.
God desires a church that has no spot and wrinkle, individuals who are blameless and harmless, without rebuke who shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
Is this a possibility? Can we attain this height? Yes! we can.
Because the Holy Spirit is here and He is that highway.
He is here to guide us, He is here to teach us and to lead us every step of the way. This is possible because He has taken His abode inside of us.
